Local musician Tom Baker raised £1,318 for Hospital Radio Plymouth through hosting a live Facebook event from his home studio.

The acoustic session followed an original gig which raised an amazing £1,196 for Mental Health UK. This time, Tom decided to help a smaller, local charity.

Tom said: “I have never felt so proud to call you all friends at these very troubling times. I really wanted to make a positive impact for a more smaller & local charity going through a really tough time due to Covid 19.”

The set included songs made popular by Christina Perri, Stereophonics and Avicii, as well as an impromptu version of Dance Monkey, and was seen by people from across Plymouth and beyond.

Station Manager Keith Jolley said: “We’re so grateful to Tom for raising this money for us – as a station, we enjoy supporting local musicians, and to get this type of support from a local musician when most of our fundraising opportunities have stopped is amazing.

“I’d also like to thank all the Hospital Radio Plymouth volunteers who helped to make this happen, particularly Jane Gilliam, our Fundraising Officer. She was incredibly emotional at the end of the event, as Tom raised so much more money than we expected.”

If you missed it, don’t worry – you can watch the whole thing on Tom’s Facebook page, and we’ll be broadcasting it on Hospital Radio Plymouth soon, so staff and patients of Derriford Hospital can enjoy the gig along with family and friends at home.
