Fundraising Manager

Jane Gilliam

Jane Gilliam is our Fundraising Manager Superstar!

My name is Jane Gilliam and I have been the Fundraising Manager for Hospital Radio Plymouth since November, 2019.

I am also a Staff Nurse and work on Birch DCU  two days a week. I have been nursing for 36 years, having started my nurse training in Plymouth in 1985. I followed in my Grandfather’s footsteps. I have always enjoyed fundraising and have 20 years experience of doing so. Over the years I have organised raffles for Bickleigh Down Primary school, 1st Roborough Scouts, The Eden unit and Birch ward.

I have also run seven Plymouth half marathons – six of these were for charity. The charities I have helped to support include The PIA, HRP, Bickleigh Down school and The Eden unit. I have also supported St Luke’s Hospice by doing the Midnight walk three times and getting sponsorship.

In 2014 I was delighted to be awarded the Fundraiser of the year at the Local Business and Community Awards in Woolwell. I felt privileged to be awarded it again the following year. In 2015 I retired from fundraising – but over 16 years I am pleased to say I have raised in excess of £10,000 for various charities close to my heart.

Both my husband Tony and son Jack are members of Hospital Radio Plymouth. They knew HRP needed a new fundraiser as this role had been vacant for quite some time so they encouraged me to join. I rose to the challenge  and eighteen months on I’m still doing it!

Unfortunately shortly after I joined we went into lockdown which meant fundraising had to be done a completely different way. I kept myself busy applying for grants, managing to obtain £9,500 for HRP. This money was used to pay the yearly bills/fees, buy a new transmitter and also purchase our new HRP APP and microphones.

A local musician Tom Baker performed a live stream gig for us on Facebook generating over £1,400. Prior to lockdown I had ordered 20 new HRP collection tins and am pleased to say money is continuing to come in daily. We also now have a donate button on the website.

My other hobbies include walking my little Westie, Lola, gardening and car booting.
