Hospital Radio Plymouth scores a hat trick with third shortlisting for
national media award.

Hospital Radio Plymouth has been shortlisted for an EDF Energy South
West Media Award.

This is the third consecutive year that the charity has been
shortlisted as a finalist in the Radio News/Current Affairs Programme of
the Year category, the only third sector organisation to reach the
finals, and will be taking on the might of Heart South West and BBC
Radio Cornwall.

Station Manager Andrew Hill said "Our ethos has always been to be about
more than just piping out back to back music. We have a strong emphasis
on keeping our listeners in touch with events beyond the confines of the
hospital ward and I'm really pleased our efforts have been recognised by
this shortlisting for the third successive year."

Hospital Radio Plymouth (registered charity number 260238) was
established in 1969 and has been providing entertainment to the patients
and staff of Derriford Hospital ever since, broadcasting 24/7. In 2009,
charity member Josie Scobling was shortlisted for Radio Journalist of
the Year for a documentary she did about the life changing effects of a
Stroke. In 2011, Hospital Radio Plymouth were shortlisted for their
coverage of the previous year's City Council elections. And, in 2012,
they were shortlisted for their Community Events Programming which
included: Lord Mayor's Day, The Plymouth Half Marathon and the 70th
Anniversary of the Plymouth Blitz service in the Derriford Hospital
Chapel.

It could be third time lucky for Hospital Radio Plymouth who are yet to
secure a win at the EDF Awards. Their submitted programme consists of
some of Plymouth’s most popular events from 2012 including coverage from
Lord Mayor's Day 2012, the arrival of the Olympic Flame in Plymouth and
National Armed Forces Week.

This year's results will be declared at an award ceremony in Exeter on
the 7th of June.
